Aramark Canada is recruiting for a General Manager for our Food Services operations at Concordia University.
Reporting to the District Manager, the General Manager will oversee the daily foodservice and facilities and will be responsible for the profitable management of these services under contract with the client. Responsibilities include interaction with the client, customers and employees and providing vision to grow the business while exemplifying excellent leadership.
Job Responsibilities
Growth:
• Direct and lead a large, multi-unit food, beverage, and facility operation on 2 campuses
• Strong leadership of 100-150 hourly staff, and 6 salaried managers
• Properly set and manage client objectives, priorities and customer needs to drive growth, exceed client expectations, and deliver contract retention
• Execute on quality and innovation by identifying opportunities to implement new products and services in partnership with clients
• Coordinate activities with other internal departments
• Serve as a customer advocate
• Maintain positive community relations (e.g. students’ events, higher education conferences)
• Build effective partnership with Aramark regional and corporate support functions
Capture Cost and Productivity:
• Deliver prescribed labor and food targets
• Develop strategic operational plans aligned with the client's mission, vision, and objectives to include sustainable practices while balancing the fiscal constraints of the operation
• Develops plans to optimize financial performance and productivity
• Coordinate and supervise personnel regarding production, merchandising, quality, cost control, labor, scheduling, staffing, and training
• Establish and maintain procedures for purchasing, receiving, storage, preparation, and food service
• Assist front line managers with operational and staffing issues; assist in menu planning
Lead People:
• Recruit, hire, develop, and retain a high performing management team to minimize turnover
• Train, develop and mentor the management team and establish succession plans
• Engage and inspire teams through active guidance, development and recognition
• Develops and maintains effective labor relations
• Drive a culture of Safety through the implementation and maintenance of all safety, quality and service excellence standards
• Ensure requirements for appropriate sanitation and safety levels in respective areas are met
Deliver Financial Commitments:
• Fully leverage contract terms to deliver Growth & Margin targets
• Prepare business plans, budgets, and forecasts, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting for all business sectors
• Monitor financial operating results in order to achieve company and client objectives
• Perform other functions such as maintaining records to comply with Aramark, government and accrediting agency standards
• Ensure compliance with marketing and supply chain programs
Qualifications
In order to be prepared for this leadership role, qualified candidates will possess:
• University Degree or College Diploma in Hospitality, Business Management, or a related field
• Bilingual in French and English is preferred and a definite asset
• 5+ years progressive management experience managing complex operations/business with financial and operational responsibility for that business, multi-site OR multi-departmental
• Successful high-volume P&L and budgetary management; exceptional organizational and time management skills with a proven track record of growing accounts
• Demonstrated the ability to manage in a diverse environment with focus on client and customer services, entrepreneurship and building and growing a strong business is essential to success in this role
• Self-starter, capable of leading, directing, and supporting a team in a diverse environment with highly developed interpersonal, analytical and communication skills
• Experience managing a board plan operation is an asset
