Job Description

The Dietetic Technician provides support to students with food allergies and dietary needs for Catamount Dining at Western Carolina University. Utilizes technical training on food health to develop healthy and inclusive menus. Collaborates with dining directors on execution of special diets and meal plan accommodations, quality assurance programs and food service production. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Supports the culinary team in understanding special dietary needs including dietary restrictions related to food allergies or intolerances, and lifestyle diets due to personal preferences or religious reasons. 
  • Implementation of allergen solutioning, including training of staff and proper documentation as it relates to diets. Work with the FSD on written action plans for problem areas.
  • Works with on-campus partners for proper student registration and medical documentation as it pertains to meal plan exemptions and accommodations. 
  • Responds and follows up with grievances related to special meal plans.
  • Provides individual tours to students and prospective groups to familiarize them with campus dining locations and to identify options related to their specific needs. 
  • Oversees compliance for FDA menu labeling laws. 
  • May use nutrition analysis software to analyze ingredients, products, and recipes. 
  • Stays current and up to date on dining, nutrition and sustainability practices and trends. 
  • Maintains the highest levels of safety, quality and service excellence for Aramark’s employees, clients, consumers, shareholders, and the community.
  • Contributes ideas and feedback to the department and can be depended upon to meet commitments. 
  • Participates in Quality Control and Quality Assurance programs/process.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or bachelor’s Degree approved by Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) as a Dietetic Technician, with a minimum of two years relevant experience
  • ServSafe certified (or ability to earn certifications).
  • Ability to build relationships, communicate effectively with clients, guests, front line managers and employees.
  • Ability to accurately and efficiently utilize an electronic medical record system.
  • Requires proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently, be organized, and manage your time effectively
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
